Center for Community Development 2008

Since its inception on September 27, 2004, the Center for Community Development (CCD) has made an impact in our community through three programs: Youth, Men, and Economic Development.

This year, we provided mentoring services at Christ Bible Church and Lincoln’s Challenge Academy. On Saturday, July 12, CCD participated in the Truth-in-Love Ministries radio broadcast on WYCA 102.3 FM. Additionally, we hosted the Money Matters financial seminar at Christ Bible Church.

We trust that God will continue use CCD to make a difference on Chicago’s south side.

Lincoln's Challenge Academy

In July, Center for Community Development assigned a mentor to Cadet Darell McClendon, student in the Lincoln's Challenge Academy. Darell's mentor was required to complete 4 hours of mentor training and to contact him 4 times each month (two meetings must be face to face).

Lincoln’s ChalleNGe Academy, in Rantoul Illinois, is part of the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe program.

The Lincoln's ChalleNGe Academy is currently on its 31st class and starting its fifteenth year of operation. The program has become immensely popular and has the potential of providing thousands of "at-risk" young men and women in Illinois with a new start.

MISSION:
To train, mentor and develop selected applicants into contributing members of their communities by providing life application skills through a variety of activities based on the 8-Core Components.
8 Core Objectives
Life Coping
Educational Excellence
Job Skills
Responsible Citizenship
Leadership & Fellowship
Health & Hygiene
Physical Fitness
Service to Community

VISION:
"Molding the youth of today to meet the challenges of tomorrow, armed with the values and integrity of our forefathers, and the strength of one nation."

The future of the Lincoln's ChalleNGe Academy appears promising, but it will require the support of the Governor, the Illinois General Assembly and concerned agencies, organizations, businesses and citizens. To see how you can help, visit our website http://www.ngycp.org/state/il/

Meditate on These Things

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things" Philippians 4:6-8.
